Who are Active in Redbourn?

Active in Redbourn (AIR) is a constituted community group run by volunteers. Our aim is to make Redbourn the healthiest village in Hertfordshire.

We plan to do this by supporting local activities, promoting health and wellbeing for residents and funding relevant special projects.

While Covid-19 is restricting participation in group activities, we have promoted in-home exercises, on-line wellbeing workshops and general help lines. Go here for more coronavirus support

Activities

Active in Redbourn all activities available to Redbourn residents

From sports, keep fit, and horticulture to bowls, drama and bird watching there are Redbourn activities for everyone. They all offer varying degrees of physical and mental exercise.

The less strenous activities do much for general well being and social interaction in the community. See below for more information contact details and links to the activity organisers.

Wellbeing

Care + Logo 2

As a nation, we are being constantly encouraged to improve our health and mental well being. The NHS and others say healthy diets and exercise go a long way to keeping well and minimising health scares.

As well as making residents aware of local activities, a big AIR challenge is to boost their health and mental well being.

We are building access to useful information and support with help and advice from local healthcare practitioners, mental health advisers wellbeing specialists

The Active in Redbourn Mission

Active in Redbourn making Redbourn the healthiest village in Hertfordshire‘Active in Redbourn’ (AIR) is an exciting initiative seeking to encourage physical and mental wellbeing throughout Redbourn. The group of volunteers see AIR’s ultimate aim as Redbourn being known as the best fitness, health and leisure community not just of Hertfordshire, but of England! This is how AIR plan to achieve its mission and purpose:

  • Support activities that are “being active” and enhance physical and mental well-being.
  • Initiate and lead relevant fund-raising
  • Nourish “start-up” activities
  • Co-ordinate and support existing groups and bodies in Redbourn to grow and share resources
  • Publicise events and activities via on-line, social media and traditional media channels
  • Engage the whole community – young, elderly and families
  • Lobby politicians, local and county-wide, sporting bodies
  • Use “Active in Redbourn” as a means to promote Redbourn to residents and visitors.

Redbourn – a wonderful place to live

Our aim is to improve Redbourn community health and wellbeing

The initiative aims to promote and support leisure, recreation and sport for people inclusive of any age, ability and interest in the Redbourn area. It would be great to see more people in the village join in all the wonderful activities that are already taking place.

What can I expect to see from this initiative in the near term?

In addition to supporting ongoing activities, the group aims to deliver three major projects:

  1. Documenting key walking, running and cycle routes in/around Redbourn
  2. Installing at least one drinking water fountain in a prominent position in the village
  3. Creating a ‘Redbourn Mile’ around the Common; to encourage regular short activity for all

We already have an exciting list of other initiatives to tackle. However, we are open to and would welcome further support from anyone who has an idea or would like to join our group to make further projects happen!

Here are some of the many Active in Redbourn activities you can take part in.
